His spirit lives on in a west coast intermittent PO employee!
Yep.
It's time off from any duties and I don't want to do a thing. After weeks of going it's stopping time. I have started an excellent so far xmas gift book and have my Mama Mia movie to watch. And then there is the nonstop online Yahtzee playing, courtesy of Pogo. I don't understand most of this coming to a grinding halt mode, but after a shower and other necessaries, I might just resume inertia.
Thoughts on this interaction yest: The doorbell rings, its a substitute mailman with a package too big for the mail slot. As I reach out to take it, he says,
"I'm kinda surprised you are even getting any bills in the mail with Obama elected.
Seems like the govt will pay those for you."
Huh?Seems like the govt will pay those for you."
The better half has an Obama sticker on the back of his pickup in the driveway which faces the road which must have caught the quipster's eye.
After a split moment of being really surprised, I said: "What kind of thing is that to say to me?"
He mumbles something and backs down the sidewalk saying: "Have a nice day now." I tell the family I want to let the Postmaster know about the crackpot comment. The family says let it go.
I am livid that a well paid Federal employee who is going to receive a pretty nice cost of living raise in January, courtesy of his president, would feel moved to say that to a customer he doesn't know. A year or so ago I went to the post office at 4:50 with 10 packages that need mailed. The PO employee at the window would not take them because it would take her past her 5 o clock quitting hour. We had a conversation which ended up with us not receiving pieces of our mail and having some of our mail dropped into the PO mail slot not get delivered. I hate to incur the wrath of the PO again, but I also hate to take surly, unprovoked comments as something acceptable for employees to say to customers. These are the comments that a professional, like when the strange co-worker who acts out at work, you say in your head.
Since I know the Postmaster personally, I will probably, knowing there will be some type of price to pay again, pass the comment on to him.
It's now blowing 40 miles an hour and in the oh so warm 30s....I don't love winter.

What the hey? That was not right for the PO mailman to say that to you, especially since you were a clearly an Obama supporter. But even if you hadn't had that bumper sticker, it's still beyond the boundaries of appropriateness! I would DEFINITELY say something to the postmaster.
I'm pleased that you at least had the mind to question his comment to his face. I would have been so shocked I probably wouldn't have said anything...but wished I would have later.
